SUMMER/SEASONAL, ROAD WORKERS – Closed

The Mason County Road Commission is seeking Summer/Seasonal employees for the position of road worker.  Applicants must be 18 years of age and possess a high school degree or equivalent.  The position is typically 40 hours per week and pays $12.00 per hour straight time with no benefits.

Summer hours are 6:00 am until 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday with a paid 15-minute break and unpaid 30-minute lunch time.

Duties may include but are not limited to traffic regulating, set up of signs and work zones, road work including hot and cold patching, picking up dead animals, crack pouring, shoveling, raking and more. Safety toed boots with 6” cuffs are required.

The ideal candidate will be in good physical condition and capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and performing physical labor in all types of weather conditions.  A valid Michigan Driver’s License is required.  A successful applicant will be able to read and write and follow verbal and written instructions.

Alcohol and drug testing are required.

 

Engineer / Technician – Closed

Mason County Road Commission is accepting applications for the position of Engineer / Technician.

Successful applicant shall work under the general supervision of the Senior County Highway Engineer.   Will assist in the preparation of documents for construction and maintenance plans of federal, state, and county/township projects within an Autodesk Civil 3D software environment.  Assist in surveying and construction inspection, develop right-of-way description and acquisition, and other engineering duties. Will prepare cost estimates for townships and oversee the Permit Department.  Mason County Road Commission maintains 952 miles of roadway, 40 bridges, and 164 MDOT lane miles.

Desirable qualifications are a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Associates degree in Civil Engineering Technology, with 1 to 2 years design experience or equivalent on-the-job experience in using Autodesk Civil 3D / AutoCAD.   Must be organized and multi-task oriented and capable of controlling and organizing high levels of work activity.  Ability to deal with people courteously and effectively.  Work satisfactorily with other employees.

 

Seasonal Truck Driver – Closed

The Mason County Road Commission is seeking Winter/Seasonal employees for the position of snowplow truck driver.  The position is on an as needed basis between the months of December through March and requires a CDL License and current medical card. Applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment physical and drug alcohol screen.  Rate of pay is $17.00 per hour with overtime being paid at time and a half after 40 hours.

Hours are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday and you must be available for overtime including weekends and holidays

 

Shop Foreman – Closed

The Mason County Road Commission is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Shop Foreman.  The qualified applicant will work under the general supervision of the Manager/Director and the direct supervision of the Superintendent who assigns duties periodically and review work accomplishments.  Exercises direct supervision over the shop including all personnel assigned to the shop.  Supervises the maintenance and repair of all county equipment including purchasing of necessary parts, inspects periodically all county facilities, makes recommendations, and coordinates all work with the Superintendent and Manager/Director.  Performs work as required. Exercises discretion, good judgment and takes initiative; Willingness to be a team player, assisting internally when required and be a diligent public steward.

A minimum of five years responsible work experience as a Shop Foreman is desired including computer skills and availability for “On Call” rotation.  This position requires a CDL.

The salary and benefit package are commensurate with experience.
