Jebavy Drive & Johnson Road – New Traffic Signal Planned
The intersection of Jebavy Drive and Johnson Road will receive a new traffic signal in 2026.
This intersection has been a concern of the Mason County Road Commission for several years. Traffic volumes increased significantly after the new elementary school at Bryant Road and Jebavy Drive became operational in January 2022, resulting in increased delays at the Jebavy Drive and Johnson Road intersection.
A traffic study was conducted by Prein & Newhof in May 2022. The study concluded that the level of service at the intersection warranted the installation of a traffic signal. It also recommended the addition of a dedicated right-turn lane for southbound traffic on Jebavy Drive.
The dedicated southbound right-turn lane at Jebavy Drive and Johnson Road was constructed in 2023 using an MDOT Category F Grant along with additional funding from the Mason County Road Commission.
The Mason County Road Commission applied for an MDOT Safety Grant for a traffic signal in May 2023 for fiscal year 2025 but was not awarded funding. A second application was submitted in May 2024 for fiscal year 2026, and in October 2024 the project was awarded an MDOT Safety Grant in the amount of $228,600.
Traffic signal installation is anticipated to take place in the summer or fall of 2026. This project is expected to significantly improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection.
