Receives Unusual Workers' Compensation Award
Lansing, September 24, 2024. The Mason County Road Commission received the "Goose Egg Award" for having "0" reportable workers' compensation losses during the last 12 months. The award was announced at the County Road Association Self-Insurance Fund's (CRASIF) Annual Membership Meeting in Gaylord on September 24, 2024.
"Zero workers' compensation losses in our industry over a 12-month period is phenomenal!" exclaimed Joyce Porter, Fund Administrator. "Regarding the unique name of the award," Ms. Porter commented, "We had to come up with an eye-catching name for the award since it is a unique achievement." CRASIF provides safety training and workers' compensation coverage for road commissions.
Tom Doty, Chairperson of the CRASIF Board of Trustees and a Commissioner at Mackinac County Road Commission, stated "You can't get any better than "O" incidents and "O'' losses. What is amazing," stated Tom Doty, "is that road commission work mainly involves manual labor, and, putting our people at significant risk of harm while they work in the roadway. The road commission is either lucky or good with employee safety. A little bit of both helps."
"Zero workers' compensation losses also mean that more of the taxpayers' dollars can go directly to maintaining our roads," commented Joyce Porter. "The road commission should be applauded for their extraordinary achievement."
The award was given by the County Road Association Self Insurance Fund otherwise known as CRASIF. CRASIF is a Michigan based self-insured group fund that provides disability management and workers' compensation to 70 road commissions.
